HULL & DECK
FABRICATION
The hull and deck are the two most obvious
components of a boat, but they are only two of as many as 100 parts
made of glass reinforced plastic or GRP, which lends form and structure
to the finished yacht. Today's high tech laminating materials and
techniques dramatically overshadow the early days of fiberglass
hull production. Cabo Yachts utilizes the highest quality domestically
produced gelcoats that yield finished surfaces with exceptional
gloss and hardness. Core material such as “Core-Cell” foam
and “Balteck” end grain balsa are used to reinforce
areas for strength without adding unnecessary weight. While the
hull bottom of every Cabo yacht is solid fiberglass, topside sections
of the hull are fabricated using foam core reinforcements, vacuum
bagged in place to ensure a complete bond and the optimum strength
to weight ratio. The exclusive use of vinylester resin throughout
the hull laminating process results in hulls of superior strength
when compared to those of other builders where simple polyester
resin is the chief ingredient of the laminate.
