cabo owners the gallaghers

Father Tony and son Chris Gallagher live in Hyannis, Massachusetts, the heart of Cape Cod. They fish an average of 300 days each year, targeting everything from cod and striped bass to giant bluefin tuna and marlin. They fish both recreationally and commercially. Some winters they spend in Florida and the Bahamas while others they spend in the rough North Atlantic fishing for cod. Despite the many different species the Gallaghers fish for, they always have one thing in common. The Gallaghers fish Cabo Yachts exclusively.

gallagher 35 express"We got the 31 back in 1997 and fished it hard," says Chris. "It performs beautifully both inshore and offshore. It's dry and comfortable all the time. After a year or so we decided we wanted a little more range for canyon trips, so we got the 35. We've never had a moment's disappointment over either boat. We couldn't have picked better boats for the job.
The Gallaghers have had boats all their lives. Chris spent four years in the Coast Guard aboard ships as well as running boats at small boat rescue base. When he left the service, he and his Dad started chartering. "We started out with smaller boats in the 26-foot range. We always selected the absolute top-of-the-line. We looked really carefully before buying in the 30-plus size range.

That first year in the fall, the Gallaghers took their Cabo down the East coast, fishing New Jersey, Maryland and Hatteras along the way. During the winter they enjoyed a terrifically successful sailfish season in Florida, then moved over to fish the Bahamas circuit and back to the northeast in time for summer stripers. "We're sure we put more hours on our boats than any other Cabo owners by far," says Chris. "What's so great about that is that with the way Cabos are built, all I really have to do is routine engine maintenance. In the long run, it's much less expensive for us to maintain our Cabos than it is for other people to maintain their boats. Cabo's quality may cost a little more up front but you get more than it back later."

The Gallagher family gets top dollar for their charters. But, there's no one with better equipment in the area. "When people walk down the dock, our Cabos are always the first boats that everyone chooses to charter first," says Chris, "We don't advertise at all - ours is all word of mouth and repeat business. "But business is excellent nonetheless. Good enough, in fact that Chris and Tony are in the market for a still larger Cabo.

gallagher tuna"We're working on getting a new 45 but like our 31 and 35, it will be an express model. We've found that the express works best for our charters," says Chris. "I often don't take a mate along with me and with the express, I can run the boat and the cockpit with no problem.

The Gallaghers and their Cabos have a reputation for getting results among New England corporate executives who charter with them. Those executives get the kid- glove treatment with Cabos finely crafted interior combined with great food and attentive fishing.

But the really tough fishing happens during the cold, rough north East winters when the cod run. You won't find any luxury charters out then. None but the Gallaghers that is. They seem just as comfortable  then as when they're secure in the knowledge that with Cabo Yachts they have boats that can stand up to the rigors of a North Atlantic winter sea. "Not to mention that come the middle of winter," adds Chris, "we're by far the fanciest cod-fishing boat in all New England."
