Since 1970, Paul Dauphinais's family has owned six Hatterases,
including his last, a 65-footer. When he decided to downsize, he
began looking for a new sportfisher that would provide the comfort
and luxury he was used to.
"I do all of my own maintenance, and that was quite a job
on a 65-footer. I first looked at convertibles, but I really wanted
an express,
one that features a perfect layout, spaciousness, speed, and the
ability to customize, and absolute top quality. So, I kept searching."
Yacht
broker Ben Crago of Oyster Harbors Marine on Cape Cod suggested
to Paul that he look at the Cabo 45. "I knew that overcoming
Paul's loyalty to Hatteras would be a tough obstacle, but I was
confident that the Cabo 45 had everything he wanted. It's sexy
looking, with extraordinary glass work. Inside and out, it's first
class. Cabo never cuts corners and I knew from past experience
that Paul would appreciate that kind of commitment to quality.
As Paul has such a keen eye for detail, I was sure he'd
be impressed with the impeccable workmanship found not only in
the
cabinetry and appointments, but everywhere you look throughout
a Cabo Yacht." So Crago invited Paul to take a sea trial on
a Cabo 45, out of Newport, Rhode Island.
"There was a stiff breeze, with sizeable chop," reports
Paul. "I
was used to a much bigger boat under those conditions and I was
very impressed with the way the Cabo 45 handled. The Cabo 45 felt
solid. The workmanship was top notch, and the interior was very
spacious and well done. It was a fantastic boat!" Paul said,
enthusiastically. "I was sure that the Cabo would more than
meet our needs and I looked forward to taking delivery." Paul
took delivery in March of 1998, and named his new boat C'CAP. He
and his wife Arline, almost immediately put 300 hours on the Cabo,
cruising along Maine's coast. Then he competed in the Mid Atlantic
500,000 missing a first place win by just seven pounds.
"My Cabo 45 is totally impressive. It runs well in the water
and it's easy to handle," said Paul. "The finish is as
good as it gets. It's remarkably well-designed for both cruising
and
fishing, and visibility from the helm is terrific. The cockpit
layout is absolutely beautiful for fishing. Cockpit access to the
engine room is as it should be, and the wiring system is a work
of art. You could take a picture of it and hang it on the wall.
Overall. the boat just feels like it's much bigger than most 45-foot
boats," he added.
Peter Maryott, owner of Oyster Harbors Marine,
agrees wholeheartedly with Paul. "Cabo Yachts truly goes the
extra measure it takes to consistently produce a top level boat.
We've been servicing
all types of boats here since 1900. We've seen it all and I can
tell you, no other builder builds a boat that will compete in Cabo's
class. No one," Maryott said. "Summers are short here
in New England and over the years we have developed a family of
boat owners who depend on Oyster Harbors Marine to provide them
with the best service and the best boats. We're proud of that reputation
and we're extremely proud to recommend Cabo Yachts to our clients
who seek the very best available in an offshore sportfisherman."
