A mere handful of anglers have ever caught a royal slam, the catching
of all nine billfish species. For those who have accomplished the
feat, most have taken several years and in some cases a lifetime.
Now. for the first time, Gary Carter of Georgia has caught all
nine species in the record time of 71/2 months. It's also the first
time in history that an angler has landed the royal slam from a
single boat. Carter's boat?
A Cabo 35 Express named "Silver-Rod-O" caught
his swordfish, white marlin, Atlantic blue marlin, sailfish and
spearfish
between October 12, 1998 and March 14, 1999 in Caraballeda, Venezuela.
Moving over to the Pacific, Carter caught his striped marlin, Pacific
sail, Pacific blue and black marlin off Cocos Island, Costa
Rica, completing the royal slam on May 29, 1999 and releasing the
blue and black on the same day.
Cabo has set new standards for
quality, engineering and craftsmanship that even the closest
competitors are unlikely to match for years
to come. Today, many sportfishing boats offer large cockpits
and features designed to make them easier to fish but Cabo Yachts
has
developed a line of sport fishermen that far exceed even these
up scaled offerings, It's why fishermen like Gary choose Cabo
Yachts when seeking a boat to take them on the fishing adventure
of a
lifetime.
Cabo Yachts co-founders Henry Mohrschladt and Michael
Howarth set out to produce the best built sportfisher to be found
anywhere.
Their success is best demonstrated by the caliber of fishermen
like Gary Carter who have chosen them.
Captain Jimmy Sharp Jr.
runs Talisman, a Cabo 35 Express
fishing in the Florida Keys. Like Gary Carter, Jim is serious
about his fishing. "As Captain, I'm responsible for getting
the boat to fish. The
handling and speed of the Cabo make that job a lot easier. In
fact, the Cabo hasn't stopped surprising us with its superior
handling
in all kinds of conditions.
People just can't believe what this
boat can do chasing a fish. We run and gun on plane and throw
a bait on tailing fish. From
then on it's all the boat, backing right down on that sailfish
coming down seas. Run around, go backwards, turn circles next
thing you know we have a nice six or seven foot fish on light tackle.
In tournament fishing you need
to get as many points as you can in
a hurry. The more quickly you can release
your fish the better. That's the name of the game."
The Cabo 35 has become a bench mark boat since its
introduction in 1994. In fact, the superior engineering and exceptional
quality
exhibited in the Cabo 35 continue to be studied and to provide
inspiration to other builders as they introduce their own versions
to the popular mid 30 foot range.
No wonder, serious anglers like
Gary Carter and Captain Jimmy Sharpe Jr. fish a Cabo. Industry
experts agree that the Cabo 35 may well
be the best 35 foot sportfishing boat out there. But don't take
