Most companies offer their employees some form of training so
that they can better perform their jobs. Cabo Yachts has taken
this practice to new levels. Cabo employs over 350 craftsmen,
all highly capable at their particular skill, whether it be installing
engines or applying the final coat of finish to the interior
joinery. The
quality for which Cabo Yachts has become so well known is testimony
to how focused each of Cabo’s craftsmen is on building
the best sportfishing boats available in the world. But not everyone
involved in building boats has the opportunity to actually see
them being used as they are intended. Running out to the fishing
grounds, rigged up and spending the day out at sea fishing.
On
the water, craftsmen from a wide variety of departments see first
hand just how important their job is to the finished product
and to the boats owner.
When summer comes to Southern California,
so do the Albacore and other more exotic species such as Dorado
(Dolphin or Mahi-Mahi)
and Striped Marlin. Cabo Yachts couldn’t think of a better
way to demonstrate to employees the importance of each of
their jobs in relationship to the whole product, a working
offshore sportfisherman, than to get them up at 4:00 am and
run out to
the grounds in search of tuna; dorado; yellow tail; white sea
bass;
marlin and maybe even swordfish. The fishing has been great
this season and so far employees from office staff to fiberglass
laminators
have had the opportunity to fish on the job.
Not only
does everyone have a great experience on the water, they learn
first hand the importance of their job to finished
product
and to the boats owner.
Allen Colantuono is one of Cabo Yachts
customer service specialists and it was his turn to run the companies
Cabo 35 Express “Picoso ”,
out to the fishing grounds 50 miles off Newport Beach, CA.
with five members of Cabo Yachts fiberglass lamination department.
The
next day at the Cabo factory, he told us all of his experience.
“We left Newport Beach at 5:30 AM for a day of fishing fifty miles
offshore at a spot known as the Forty Three,” reports
Alan. “None
of the guys from the glass shop had ever been that far offshore
and the ‘Seasoned ’guys, who had been fishing
a time or two were telling the ‘Rookies ’what
to expect. You could feel their excitement building with
the RPMs as we cleared
the jetties and set a course to the fish ”. Two hours
later, we were at the Forty-Three mark; we set out five lines
and began
trolling. The tuna were thick and we were hooked up in minutes.
It wasn’t long before everyone aboard had brought at
least one fish to the boat and by the end of the day, not
only had everyone
caught a 30 to 35 pound albacore, everyman aboard had a new
appreciation for how his job contributes to the finished
product. Moreover,
each man gained from first hand experience just how Cabo
owners actually use their boats. When we returned to the
dock, the guys
were still pumped up and congratulating each other on their
days catch. But there was something more in their exchange
of ‘high
fives’ than fish. They were expressing their pride
for being on the Cabo Yachts team, a team that builds the
best sportfishing
boats on the market today, bar none.
"On the job fishing"
Just another way CABO Yachts stays ahead
of the competition.
